- A hostile takeover has occurred at Barnabas Aid (formerly Barnabas Fund), the UK-based international charity that supports persecuted Christians.
- The charity is now being controlled by an American organisation called Nexcus, run by a British politician called Colin Bloom.
- Malaysian Barnabas supporters are so concerned that some are putting a hold on their donations. See this request for prayer https://search.app/oLFfcRVcFFZzbTE66
- A sum of at least £20 million GBP of donations from Barnabas supporters around the world is thought to have been accummulated in a bank account in America instead of being used to help suffering Christians.
- This mysterious buildup of funds began when Hendrik Storm was the International CEO and continued under his successor Noel Frost. If asked about the charity’s expenditure, both had a habit of being vague and evasive.
- For years, Storm and Frost told Barnabas colleagues and Barnabas supporters that overheads at the charity were less than 12%. But this now seems a dubious claim, when many costs – such as their own substantial salaries – were being deliberately concealed.
- There are also reports that the two, who are both South Africans, created companies in different parts of the world through which funds could be discretely channelled.
- Two months ago was discovered that Noel Frost has been disbarred from practising law in his native South Africa in 2022 because he stole money from his clients and forged charity documents. After a period of suspension, he ceased working for Nexcus/Barnabas on 14 June 2024, having admitted to trying to steal from Barnabas by forging a document in 2022. Hendrik Storm was alerted to this incident at the time it happened by Barnabas Aid’s bank who spotted the fraud and advised calling the police, but he did nothing about it and did not tell anyone else.
- Despite these revelations, Noel Frost still seems to be warmly supported by his successor, Colin Bloom. At the board level, Frost is supported by the Marquess of Reading, Andrew Carey (son of Lord Carey, the former Archbishop of Canterbury), Rev Michael Hewat from New Zealand, Rev. Ian Clarkson from Australia and John Marsh from USA.
- The Marquess of Reading, whose on the board of both Barnabas Aid and Nexcus, is reported to be linked with alleged corruption in Nigeria and to have sold access to Russia’s President Putin via Prince Michael of Kent.
- Colin Bloom, the current international CEO, used to be a non-executive director of a South African company which was accused of selling millions of non-existent shares.
- As a concerned whistleblower, I feel that many ordinary Christians who, like me, have donated funds sacrificially to Barnabas Aid, need to be aware of this situation. My message to my fellow-donors is: let us be cautious. like the Malaysian believers, until things become clearer.
